FISH FRENZY! • As Max Christensen trundled the Fin Chaser 700HTA along Mangonui’s main thoroughfare to our chosen launching point at Mill Bay, it created quite a spectacle.

LONG PURSUIT; NEW HOME • A long, intriguing, many-fingered harbour. A serious bar. A world-class surf break nearby. Raglan is a place par excellence for water-borne exploits. With almost any kind of boat.

Understanding and managing power consumption • Let’s begin by looking at some principles of electrical systems.

A damn good fry-up! • As a keen fisherman and cook, I am always looking for interesting and exciting ways to cook my catch. Yet, to be honest, the oldest and simplest, tried-and-true recipes seem to get just as much praise – maybe more…

CATALYST FOR ADVENTURE • Lloyd Stevenson Boatbuilders’ latest iteration of the popular Catalyst high-performance powercat is Render, a bespoke superyacht tender and water sports adventure platform extraordinaire.

Installing a chain counter • For this edition we are fitting a chain sensor into a horizontal windlass not normally equipped to work with the rode counter. The windlass used here is a refurbished second-hand Lewmar Pro-Series 1000, which we had lying around the shop.

THE ORIGINAL AND STILL THE BEST • ANTI ROLLING GYRO (ARG) IS THE ORIGINAL GYRO STABILISER, RENOWNED FOR ITS SIMPLICITY, RELIABILITY, AND MAINTENANCE-FREE OPERATION.

GOOD AWNING • If a yacht lies unattended, even for a short time, decks and canvas can quickly become grubby from bird droppings and windblown dust. I have counted 50 of the little darlings pooping merrily while perched along the triatic stay on my schooner.

NEVER GO HUNGRY IN breadfruit season • Yachties often complain about the lack of shops and difficulties in provisioning on remote Pacific islands, but with a little bit of creativity and a culinary sense of adventure, it is easy and fun to...
