THREE BELGIAN SISTERS FOR SOUTH AMERICA • During the mid-1930s three mixed cargo/passenger liners were built for Compagnie Maritime Belge for the South American run, regarded as the most modern ships under the Belgian flag in 1940. Urbain Ureel recounts the varied careers of the three ships.
MARITIME MOSAIC HUMBER ESTUARY • The Humber estuary is one of the UK’s most important maritime gateways, and the country’s busiest estuary, handling approximately 16 per cent of the UK’s seaborne trade. The estuary is home to the largest port complex in the UK, operated primarily by Associated British Ports. Talbot Clark’s photographs show ships calling at the Humber in 2011.
